History
Discussions considering an organization for tutors and learning support personnel were held in 2004, at the NCADE conference. Nancy Heilman was one of its strongest founders and supporters.
The organization started meeting in 2005 and was made official in 2007, with officers, bylaws, and dues.
The first year with two conferences, because of the addition of a fall gathering, was 2010.
2010 was also the first year we met away from Pinehurst, NC.
In the spring of 2010, seven committees were formed to work further on several topics of interest, including best practices in math, writing, learning styles, etc.
Regional representatives (as officers) were first mentioned in the 2012 and 2013 newsletters.
Our new webpage and Facebook account were developed in the fall of 2014.
The logo the organization uses was chosen from designs submitted by talented individuals within the organization between December 2014 and January 2015. The winning design was created by a student at Isothermal CC.
In 2016, T-shirts, with the logo, were made available to members.
Starting in 2017, the organization chose to establish annual awards for a tutoring center, a professional tutor, and a peer tutor, as one way to create a supportive environment for tutoring professionals.
Fall conferences took a brief hiatus around 2018, 2019, and 2021.
Our organization has always worked to keep the membership fees and conference costs as low as possible.
